The Super Falcons of Nigeria will seek their maiden victory over France’s Les Bleues when both teams clash in an international friendly on Saturday (today) at the Stade Raymond Kopa, Angers, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

The encounter, scheduled to kick off at 9:30 p.m. local time, serves as a critical test for both teams as they prepare for major tournaments.

While Nigeria has its sights set on the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, France is gearing up for the UEFA Women’s Euro Championship in Switzerland next summer.

For the Falcons, this match represents an opportunity to continue the rebuilding process under interim head coach Justin Madugu, who has been tasked with crafting a squad capable of reclaiming continental glory.

Fresh from a commanding performance in their recent double-header against Algeria, where they secured 2-0 and 4-1 victories, Madugu’s charges will aim to build on their momentum.

The Super Falcons will, however, face an uphill battle against a French team that has historically dominated their meetings.

Les Bleues have won all three previous encounters, including an 8-0 rout in 2018, one of Nigeria’s heaviest defeats on record. Their last meeting was at the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup, where a late penalty secured a 1-0 victory for France in a tightly contested group stage match.

Despite the absence of star players such as Asisat Oshoala and Rasheedat Ajibade due to injuries, the Falcons will rely on the experience of USA-based Michelle Alozie, France-based Jennifer Echegini, and veteran Osinachi Ohale, alongside promising home-grown talents like Shukurat Oladipo and Mercy Omokwo.

A win in Angers would not only mark a historic first for Nigeria over France but also boost the team’s confidence ahead of WAFCON. For Madugu and his players, the game is more than just a friendly—it’s a chance to rewrite history and solidify their readiness for future challenges.

The match will take place at the 18,000-capacity Stade Raymond Kopa, home to Ligue 1 side Angers SCO. Fans of both nations eagerly await the high-stakes showdown under the lights in Angers.
