The report highlights a pattern of worsening symptoms, which medical experts warn could become life-threatening without urgent intervention.

According to the document obtained by SaharaReporters, titled “Nigerian Medical Association Independent Investigative (Multidisciplinary) Medical Report on Mazi Nnamdi Kanu”, and dated September 23, 2025, the 58-year-old has been battling multiple complications, including severe fatigue, blurred vision, chest pain, urinary difficulty, recurrent nosebleeds, numbness in the limbs, and episodes of spontaneous hematuria (blood in urine).

The report, which was prepared after a detailed clinical examination by a multidisciplinary team of eight medical professionals, outlines that Kanu, who has been in prolonged detention by the Department of State Services (DSS), has been living with hypertension for over ten years and is currently on a complex combination of drugs.

“He developed generalised fatigue and muscle weakness, worse on waking up from sleep and does not get worse with activity,” the NMA report stated.

“He has a history of recurrent non-exertional, non-pleuritic chest pain and self-limiting palpitations with recurrent headache. There is frequent urination, urgency, terminal dribbling and feeling of incomplete bladder emptying in the past nine months.”

The doctors further noted that Kanu has blurred vision, redness, and itching in both eyes, as well as “floaters” (spots or strings in his vision), suggesting possible early retinal or vascular complications.

“There is blurring of vision at far in both eyes, itching, redness of the eyes and floaters,” the report continued, adding that he has also experienced “dry cough, nasal obstruction, snoring, and recurrent right-sided nosebleeds preceded by severe headaches radiating to the face.”

The medical team documented that the IPOB leader suffers from numbness in both hands, worse on the left side, low back pain, and non-painful swellings in both armpits, which may require further diagnostic evaluation to rule out underlying causes.

They also recorded two previous episodes of spontaneous hematuria (blood in urine), which lasted up to a week before resolving, indicating a possible renal or urological condition.

“He has had two episodes of spontaneous hematuria about three years ago which lasted up to one week and resolved spontaneously,” the report noted.

The NMA report confirmed that Kanu had previously been on a different set of medications, Amlodipine, Valsartan, Eplerenone, Clopidogrel, and Bisoprolol, before his treatment regimen was suddenly changed about a month ago to include Mediran (Telmisartan + Chlortalidone), Celebrex, Aspirin, Clopidogrel, and Panadol Extra.

“There is history of trauma in childhood to the right eye and has had appendectomy about 42years ago,” the report said.

“His previous medications were Amlodipine 10mg, Valsartan160mg, Eplerenone 50mg and Clopidogrel 75mg, Bisoprolol 5mg but these were amended to the current medication about a month ago.”
