Enyimba part ways with Eguma

Enyimba FC have parted ways with their technical adviser, Stanley Eguma, following a string of poor results in the ongoing Nigeria Premier Football League season, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

The decision, confirmed in a club statement on Monday, also affects his assistants, Ndubuisi Nduka and Joseph Boma.

The announcement came a day after Enyimba suffered a disappointing 1–0 defeat to Wikki Tourist on Sunday at the Enyimba International Stadium in Aba.

According to the club, the move takes immediate effect as management conducts a thorough review of the team’s recent performances.

The statement reads, “Following a run of poor and unsatisfactory results, the Management of Enyimba FC has approved the stepping aside of the club’s Technical Adviser, Coach Stanley Eguma and his two assistants, Ndubuisi Nduka and Joseph Boma till further notice.”

While the club evaluates next steps, one of the assistant coaches, Lawrence Ukaegbu, has been tasked with taking interim charge of training sessions and preparations ahead of Enyimba’s matchday 14 fixture against Katsina United in Jos on Sunday.

Enyimba’s struggles this season under Eguma have been well documented.

From 13 NPFL games, the team has recorded just four wins, failing to win nine matches, including defeats to Plateau United, Kun Khalifat, Warri Wolves, and Wikki Tourist FC.

Notably, losses to Wolves and Wikki came in front of home fans in Aba, while three of the defeats were against newly promoted sides.

Eguma, who joined Enyimba in December 2024, had been given a two-game ultimatum following a loss to Plateau United in late October.

The team briefly responded with a 2–0 victory over struggling Kano Pillars and a goalless draw against state rivals Abia Warriors, but the subsequent defeat to Wikki proved decisive.

Over his tenure, Eguma was in charge for a total of 35 NPFL matches.

At the start of the season, Eguma set ambitious targets for the 2025/26 NPFL campaign, stating his aim to either guide Enyimba to the league title or secure a continental competition spot.

Last season, he led the nine-time league champions to sixth place, improving on the team’s 11th position when he took over mid-season.

The veteran coach, who previously won a league titles with Rivers United, had emphasised the need for progress at a club of Enyimba’s stature.

Despite his experience and past successes, the team’s inability to maintain consistent form this term prompted the management to make the change.
