A singer and music producer,  Kingsley Adaoji, popularly known as Spenta, has said that meeting legendary highlife musician, Sir Mike Ejeagha, famous for his hit song ‘Gwo Gwo Gwo,’ played a pivotal role in shaping his music career.

In an interview with Saturday Beats, Spenta said, “Pa Mike Ejeagha is somebody I listened to while growing up, and I even played the lead guitar for him over the years. My encounter with him helped shape my music career.”

Recalling his recent meeting with Ejeagha to “sample” his sound, Spenta said, “We met him recently because I wanted to sample his sound. He is a father I respect. We met and we talked about it. He gave me his consent and his blessing. When I posted it online, it went viral, especially on TikTok. There are thousands of videos with the sound now. We then worked together on a song, and it was a blast.”

Expressing his admiration for the highlife exponent, the singer said, “He tells stories through his songs. And his songs are mild, calm and cool. I learnt one or two, not just even from the song, but from playing with his kind of sound.”

Speaking on his latest song, ‘ABChD’, Spenta said, “It is a very intentional song. Looking at my people, culture and heritage, I see that some values are diminishing. My sound is out to let them know our roots— where we are coming from.”
