The All Progressives Congress in Ebonyi State has announced that its primaries for the forthcoming local government and councilorship elections will be held on January 25, 2026.
The announcement was made by the State Chairman of the party, Stanley Emegha on Monday, during a briefing with journalists in Abakaliki following a State Executive Committee meeting.
Emegha advised political appointees intending to contest the elections to comply with Governor Francis Nwifuru’s directive to resign before the primaries.
“The primary election for both councillorship and chairmanship will be held on January 25, but the processes will commence earlier in January,” he added.
“If you are a public servant under the governor’s appointment, you must resign 30 days before the primary election. Anyone who does not resign by December 20, 2025, is not qualified to contest,” he said.
He added that membership revalidation will begin once the party receives the required registration code, stressing that transparency would guide all party activities throughout the primaries.
In a related development, Emegha announced the construction of a new APC secretariat in Ebonyi State, promising its completion within six months. He described the structure as “far larger than the national secretariat,” highlighting it as a symbol of the APC’s dominance and commitment to maintaining its position as the leading party in the state.
The chairman also boasted of the party’s complete control of political offices in Ebonyi State, stating that it has 171 out of 171 ward councillors, 13 out of 13 local government chairmen, 24 out of 24 House of Assembly members, six National Assembly members, and three out of three senators
Emegha further revealed that the last opposition federal lawmaker in the state, Iduma Igariwey, representing the Afikpo and Edda federal constituency, had defected from the PDP to the APC. He confirmed that Igariwey has registered in his local Itim 001 ward in Afikpo, marking a complete consolidation of APC’s political strength in the state.
The party chairman described the developments as a demonstration of APC’s commitment to democracy, transparency, and effective governance in Ebonyi State.
