The decoration ceremony comes amid ongoing internal reshuffles within the force, as leadership positions across key commands and units are being reviewed.

Senior officers of the Nigeria Police Force are set to be decorated today (Monday) following recent promotions, with newly elevated Assistant Inspectors General (AIGs) and Commissioners of Police (CPs) expected to formally assume their ranks.

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP) personally decorates newly promoted AIGs and CPs.

The decoration ceremony comes amid ongoing internal reshuffles within the force, as leadership positions across key commands and units are being reviewed.

Sources within the police hierarchy indicate that Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Moshood Jimoh, the current Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, is still actively seeking to retain a strategic role within the state.

According to the sources, Jimoh is lobbying for a posting either as head of Zone 2 Command, Onikan, Lagos Island or the Force Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (FCIID) Annex in Alagbon, both considered influential positions within the police structure.

“The new AIGs and CPs are set to be decorated today (Monday),” a police source told SaharaReporters. “Meanwhile, Lagos CP Moshood Jimoh is intensifying his lobby to remain in Lagos, either to head Zone 2 Command or the FCIID Alagbon.”

The Zone 2 Command oversees police operations in Lagos and Ogun states, while the FCIID Alagbon office serves as a major investigative hub handling high-profile criminal cases.

The latest developments come as the Nigeria Police Force under the leadership of the Inspector General of Police Olatunji Disu continues efforts to reposition the force through deployments and promotions aimed at strengthening operations nationwide.

SaharaReporters previously reported that Jimoh was lobbying for redeployment as head of the FCIID Annex in Lagos.

This followed confirmation from police sources that his attempt to take charge of Zone 2 Police Command headquarters in Onikan, Lagos Island, amid ongoing shakeups and redeployments within the force, had failed.

However, new information from police sources indicates that Jimoh has not abandoned his effort to assume command of the Zone 2 Police Command.

The Police Service Commission (PSC) recently approved the promotion of Jimoh and 12 Commissioners of Police to the rank of AIG, following written examinations and oral interviews conducted at the Commission’s Corporate Headquarters in Abuja.

SaharaReporters had earlier reported that Jimoh, the outgoing Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, had been lobbying to remain in Lagos to head the Zone 2 Command.

Jimoh assumed office in February 2025 as the 41st Commissioner of Police in Lagos, succeeding Olanrewaju Ishola, who was redeployed to the Force Headquarters in Abuja.

SaharaReporters earlier reported that Tijani Fatai, a Lagos-born police officer, had been penciled down as a possible replacement for Jimoh as Lagos State Commissioner of Police.

Sources said Fatai, who currently serves as Commissioner of Police for the Eastern Ports Command, reportedly enjoys the support of Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Governor of Lagos State.

Earlier, the Police Force announced a promotion examination and interactive session for senior officers aspiring to the rank of Assistant Inspector General (AIG), scheduled for Tuesday, March 10, 2026, at the Police Service Commission corporate headquarters in Jabi, Abuja.

The list of officers instructed to attend included Jimoh, Christopher Ado Emmanuel, Joseph Eribo, Miller Gajere Dantawaye, Henry Ifeanyi Uche, Olanrewaju Peter Ogunlowo, Mohammed Dahiru (FDC), Dankombo Faling Morris, Bello Shehu, Ibrahim Balarabe Maikaba, Ahmed Musa, Jimoh Simeon, Udofia Akpanudom (FDC), and Haruna Oufemi.
