Fulham defender Calvin Bassey has admitted that Manchester City striker Erling Haaland is ‘too strong’ after their battle during Tuesday night’s thrilling 5-4 defeat at Craven Cottage, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
The Nigerian defender engaged in several physical duels with the Norwegian forward during the nine-goal thriller, which saw Haaland score his 100th Premier League goal.
During a fan interaction on his Snapchat after the game, a supporter praised Bassey, saying, “Bro, you just showed me Haaland isn’t that strong.”
However, the 25-year-old was quick to set the record straight, responding, “Omo, that guy is too strong, I swear.”
Haaland became the quickest player to reach 100 goals in Premier League history on the night, achieving the landmark in his 111th league game—13 fewer than it took previous record holder Alan Shearer.
The Norway international opened the scoring in the 17th minute, firing in first time from Jeremy Doku’s cross to end a mini drought of three consecutive games without scoring.
Manchester City raced to a commanding 5-1 lead before Fulham staged a remarkable comeback. Nigerian internationals Samuel Chukwueze and Alex Iwobi were at the heart of the fightback, with Chukwueze scoring twice in six minutes and Iwobi curling in a peach of a strike from 20 yards.
Despite the spirited comeback that saw Fulham pull within one goal at 5-4, City held on to secure all three points, moving to within two points of league leaders Arsenal.
