At least 10 people have been killed after two high-speed trains collided in Spain’s Toledo province, a regional government spokesperson has said.
Esther Padilla, spokesperson for the Castilla-La Mancha regional government, told local news outlet CMM Noticias that one of the trains was carrying 146 passengers and a baby, while the other had 397 passengers on board.
Spain’s prime minister described the crash as a serious incident.
The railway infrastructure manager, ADIF, said the collision occurred between the towns of Mora, Orgaz and Urda.
Both trains were travelling on the route linking Madrid, the Spanish capital, with Seville in the southern region of Andalusia.
The crash forced the suspension of high-speed rail services connecting Madrid with Andalusia.
