ADC to Tinubu: Explain why ₦10bn Ebola emergency fund remains untouched
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has challenged President Bola Tinubu to explain why the ₦10 billion emergency fund approved for Ebola preparedness in June remains untouched, despite the recent confirmation of an Ebola case in Abuja.
Was the money released or was it not? If it was released, where is it held, who controls it, and why has it not been used for the preparedness President Tinubu announced? If it was never released, why was an order for its immediate release announced in June?
The ADC Presidential Campaign Council, through its Director of Strategic Communication, Phrank Shaibu, demanded that the Federal Government publish full financial release documents, account records, and expenditure reports from the Presidential Task Force on Ebola. The party argued that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has failed to provide a clear account of the funds, instead resorting to political rhetoric.
The controversy follows the APC Presidential Campaign Council’s claim that the ₦10 billion fund remains intact, asserting that the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) and other agencies have been utilizing existing resources to manage the outbreak. The ADC maintains that the government must resolve the contradiction between the announced release of funds in June and the current claim that the money has not been spent.
