Tinubu extends tenures of correctional service, immigration chiefs by 18 months
President Bola Tinubu has approved an 18-month tenure extension for Sylvester Ndidi Nwakuche, Controller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service, and Kemi Nanna Nandap, Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service.
Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, disclosed this in a statement, saying the extensions followed a recommendation by Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, Minister of Interior.
According to the statement, the extensions are intended to address succession challenges in the two services and provide their respective boards with sufficient time to identify and appoint suitable successors.
Following the approval, Nwakuche’s tenure will now end on May 26, 2028, while Nandap’s tenure will end on June 30, 2028.
President Tinubu commended Nwakuche and Nandap for the reforms achieved under their leadership and charged them to consolidate these gains.
Recall that President Tinubu had nominated Nwakuche as Controller-General of the Correctional Service in December 2024, while the Senate confirmed the appointment in March 2025.
The President also nominated Kemi Nanna Nandap as the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) on February 21, 2024, and her nomination was confirmed by the Senate on March 1, 2024.
