Nigeria’s Tinubu launches re-election campaign as economic pain tests support
President Bola Tinubu formally launched his campaign for a second term on Saturday in the northern city of Kaduna, where he sought to rally support amid a challenging economic climate.
Tinubu, 74, faces a contest ahead of a January 16 election that is likely to be dominated by the economy and security.
We have prosperity, consistency, growth, recovery and opportunity. You grant me the privilege to promise you once again, there is that promise of a better tomorrow.
The president also addressed criticism regarding the current state of the nation, suggesting that his administration is working to clean up problems left behind by the opposition.
His main challengers include former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, who finished second and third respectively in the 2023 election.
