Bola Ahmed Tinubu
Bola Ahmed Tinubu is the President of Nigeria, having assumed office in 2023. His administration has been marked by significant economic reforms, including efforts to move away from what he describes as a “fake life” economy, and a focus on “Africa First” policies regarding industrialization and regional integration.
As he looks toward the 2027 general elections, Tinubu has been actively engaged in political maneuvering to secure his re-election. This includes building networks across northern Nigeria, such as his collaboration with former Niger Delta warlord Tompolo, and making strategic efforts to regain trust in Christian-majority regions following the controversy surrounding his Muslim-Muslim ticket in the previous election.
His political strategy also involves co-opting rivals and integrating the children of northern elites into his administration to solidify support. Despite these efforts, his presidency faces ongoing challenges, including security concerns, managing a fragmented opposition, and navigating the complexities of regional diplomacy within ECOWAS.
