The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 49-year-old man, Chima Ogumba, allegedly linked to armed robbery after operatives recovered a pump-action gun and 50 live cartridges from him in the Idemili North Local Government Area of the state.
The Public Relations Officer of the command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said on Tuesday that Ogumba was arrested by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, during an intelligence-led operation on Monday morning, August 17, 2026, along Nkpor Road.
The police spokesperson said the operatives stormed the identified location following intelligence and conducted a search on the suspect, leading to the recovery of the firearm and ammunition.
According to Ikenga, Ogumba was unable to provide a satisfactory explanation for his possession of the pump-action gun and the 50 live cartridges.
He said the suspect is currently in custody and will be subjected to further investigation to determine his alleged involvement in armed robbery and other criminal activities.
Reacting to the arrest, the Commissioner of Police in the State, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, directed that the source and intended use of the recovered firearm and ammunition be established.
The CP also ordered investigators to thoroughly probe the suspect’s possible links with criminal networks operating in the state.
Ama reiterated the command’s commitment to intelligence-led policing, targeted patrols and sustained tactical operations aimed at identifying and dismantling criminal networks across Anambra State.
