Former Kogi West Senator, Dino Melaye, has expressed strong dissatisfaction with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s 2026 Independence Day address, describing the speech as disconnected from the current realities faced by Nigerians.

The President’s speech is nothing but a collection of empty promises that fail to address the biting hunger and economic hardship ravaging the country. It is a speech of a leader who is completely out of touch with the people he governs.

Melaye, a prominent critic of the current administration, argued that the President’s focus on long-term reforms ignores the immediate suffering of citizens. He emphasized that the administration has failed to provide tangible relief for the average Nigerian, despite the rhetoric of prosperity.

We cannot continue to feed on promises while the people are dying of hunger. The Independence Day speech was an opportunity to offer real solutions, but instead, we were served with more of the same rhetoric that has defined this administration.

The former lawmaker concluded by calling on Nigerians to remain resilient and vigilant, asserting that the current political trajectory requires a change in leadership to restore the nation’s dignity and economic stability.
