Senator Jimoh Ibrahim, representing Ondo South, has defended President Bola Tinubu’s four-week vacation, asserting that the President has not committed any constitutional offence by staying away from the country for that duration.

The Senator made this known while speaking on the controversy surrounding the President’s extended leave, which has sparked legal challenges and public debate.

The President has not committed any offence. He is entitled to his vacation, and there is no law that says he cannot take a break. People are just making unnecessary noise about it.

Ibrahim emphasized that the President’s absence does not equate to a vacuum in governance, noting that the constitutional requirements for the functioning of the executive branch remain intact.

The lawmaker’s comments come amidst a lawsuit filed by the African Action Congress (AAC) against the President and the National Assembly, alleging that Tinubu failed to transmit a written declaration to the Senate President and the Speaker of the House of Representatives before embarking on his trip, as required by Section 145(1) of the 1999 Constitution.

Despite the legal pushback, Ibrahim maintained that the President’s actions are within his rights and that the focus should remain on the administration’s policy objectives rather than the duration of his leave.
