“Russia has unfortunately lost control of its Diesel Oil Industry due to its War with Ukraine,” Trump said.

He added that “A large number of their Diesel refineries have been blown up and are, at least temporarily, out of commission.”

Trump described the conflict as a “ridiculous and never ending War with Ukraine” and called for it to be brought to an end.

“This ridiculous and never ending War with Ukraine must be ended. The whole World suffers as 25,000 people, mostly soldiers, are being killed each month. What a shame!” he said.

Trump’s comments come amid continued diplomatic efforts to find a way to end the war, which has caused extensive loss of life, destruction of infrastructure and cities, and wider disruptions to energy and food security.

Responding to Trump, Ukrainian President Volodymr Zelensky said the war between Russia and Ukraine, which he described as “this Russian war against Ukraine and against common sense,” must also be brought to an end.

Zelensky said the consequences of Russia’s full-scale invasion had extended beyond the immediate battlefield, affecting lives, cities and villages, food security and energy infrastructure.

“Indeed, this Russian war against Ukraine and against common sense must be ended,” Zelensky said.

“From the first year of the full-scale invasion, its consequences have been far-reaching: the loss of many lives, the destruction of cities and villages, food security, energy challenges, the extraordinary pace of technological development, including autonomous drones, and the rapid advancement of strike capabilities never seen before.”

According to Zelensky, the continuation of the war was creating additional problems with each passing week and year.

“Every new week of this war, let alone every new year, adds more and more problems,” he said.

The Ukrainian president said his country had sought a peaceful resolution since the beginning of the full-scale invasion and had presented several diplomatic proposals aimed at ending the conflict while addressing Ukraine’s security concerns.

“From the very first minute, Ukraine has sought peace,” Zelensky said.

“We have already made dozens of diplomatic proposals on how to end this war with dignity, guarantee security, and prevent new Russian invasions.”

Zelensky also disclosed that discussions were currently ongoing between Ukraine, Trump and the United States on possible steps towards ending the conflict.

“Right now, there is a dialogue with President Trump and America,” he said.

“There are also ideas on the table for bringing peace closer, starting with strong de-escalation steps.”

He said Ukraine was prepared to consider measures that could reduce hostilities, particularly if Russia stopped targeting key Ukrainian infrastructure and economic activities.

“Ukraine’s energy sector, critical infrastructure, and our food exports must stop being targets for Russia, and this will lead to matching de-escalation steps on our part,” Zelensky said.

He added: “Solutions are possible. We are ready to work on this, and we will discuss it with our partners on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York.”

Zelensky further argued that the consequences of the war should not continue to fall exclusively on Ukraine, the country that was invaded.

“I thank everyone who is helping! It will no longer be the case that only the country under attack suffers,” he said.

“The nature of war is now such that the aggressor will suffer as well. Technology makes this possible.”

Zelensky said strong political leadership was necessary to translate the ongoing diplomatic discussions into concrete measures capable of reducing the intensity of the conflict.

“The strength of countries’ leadership can – and must – deliver de-escalation, security, and peace,” he said.

He ended his statement by thanking those involved in efforts to find a peaceful resolution to the war.
