The police said a black Mitsubishi L200 struck the pedestrians before crossing into the opposite carriageway and colliding with a black Audi and a silver BMW.

Two people were killed and four others seriously injured after a vehicle crashed into a group of pedestrians in Doncaster, Yorkshire, United Kingdom, on Sunday.

According to BBC report, the incident occurred at about 11am on White Rose Way, between Carriage Drive and Middle Bank Roundabout.

The police said a black Mitsubishi L200 struck the pedestrians before crossing into the opposite carriageway and colliding with a black Audi and a silver BMW.

Two of the pedestrians died at the scene, while four others were taken to hospital with serious injuries, according to the police. The extent of their injuries was not immediately disclosed.

The police arrested the 30-year-old driver of the Mitsubishi on suspicion of two counts of causing death by dangerous driving, two counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and driving while unfit.

The driver was later released on bail as investigations continued. A South Yorkshire Police spokesperson said officers were still working to identify and inform the families of the two people who died in the crash.

The force appealed to witnesses and anyone with dashcam footage of the collision to come forward and assist the investigation.

The crash occurred on White Rose Way, a major road in Doncaster, and involved pedestrians as well as three vehicles.

The police are expected to continue investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision as efforts to establish what led to the crash proceed.
