BREAKING: IGP Disu Mobilises 17 Senior Officers Into Police Monitoring Unit After Redeploying 56 In Major Restructuring

According to the document, those mobilised include CSP Agbegbe Godwin, CSP Abubakar Usman Bafeto, CSP Blessed O. Folorunsho, CSP Usman Garba, CSP Adeoti Olatade Adebayo, and CSP Antai Godstime.

The Inspector-General of Police Tunji Disu has approved the mobilisation of 17 senior police officers into the Police Monitoring Unit (PMU) in Abuja, as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen operations within the Nigeria Police Force.

The directive was contained in an internal memo dated April 11, 2026, issued from the Office of the Force Secretary at the Force Headquarters, Abuja, and signed by Assistant Inspector-General of Police Bode Akinbamilowo on behalf of the IGP.

The memo, addressed to senior police officials including Deputy Inspectors-General, Assistant Inspectors-General, Commissioners of Police, and heads of formations nationwide, directed the immediate release and deployment of the affected officers to the PMU.

According to the document, those mobilised include CSP Agbegbe Godwin, CSP Abubakar Usman Bafeto, CSP Blessed O. Folorunsho, CSP Usman Garba, CSP Adeoti Olatade Adebayo, and CSP Antai Godstime.

Also listed are SP Saidu Mohammed Rabiu; DSP Elizabeth Otoyo Iquio, DSP Baba Lawal Ahmad, and DSP Fatima Ashi Idris.

Others are ASP Samuel Habila, ASP Sunday Amorgiu, ASP Williams Oreoluwa Johanna, ASP Eno Maxwell, ASP Emeka Okpara, ASP Momoh Salma Ize, and ASP Joshua Awajiteleyem.

The officers were drawn from various commands and units, including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Zone 7, the Nigeria Institute of Police Studies (NIPS), Lagos Command, Rivers Command, and the Force Intelligence Department’s Intelligence Response Team (FID-IRT).

The police authorities directed that the officers be released promptly to assume their new roles at the PMU, warning that the instruction should be treated with urgency.

The mobilisation is part of broader administrative adjustments within the Force aimed at enhancing monitoring, enforcement, and special operations nationwide.

Earlier, SaharaReporters reported that IGP Disu had approved the redeployment of dozens of senior police officers from the PMU in Abuja to various commands and formations across the country, according to an internal memo dated April 11, 2026.

The directive, issued from the Office of the Force Secretary at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, was also signed by Assistant Inspector-General of Police Akinbamilowo on behalf of the IGP.

The police authorities warned that any officer who attempts to lobby the Inspector-General regarding their posting would face “severe disciplinary action.”

The memo further directed relevant departments and commands to ensure that the affected officers are promptly released to assume duty at their new postings.

On Sunday, SaharaReporters exclusively reported that IGP Disu had dismantled the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) of the Nigeria Police Force and ordered the transfer of personnel previously attached to the unit, including officers who had worked with Commissioner of Police Akin Fakorede.

Fakorede is the immediate former head of the PMU, also known as the IGP Monitoring Unit.

SaharaReporters exclusively learnt that according to the directive, scores of officers attached to the IGP Monitoring Unit had been removed and redeployed as part of a wider restructuring exercise within the Force.

“IGP Disu has dismantled the Special Investigation Unit of the NPF and has transferred all personnel who once worked with controversial police officer Fakorede,” a top police source said

“Consequently, 88 officers at IGP Monitoring Unit were removed and transferred out.”

The new arrangement is to headed by Aliyu Abubakar, who is expected to oversee the operations of the restructured unit.

In March, SaharaReporters exclusively reported that a new leadership transition had taken place within the IGP Monitoring Unit as Deputy Commissioner of Police Abubakar officially assumed command, succeeding Fakorede.

Fakorede, a former commander of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), was appointed to lead the IGP Monitoring Unit in December 2024 by then-IGP Kayode Egbetokun.

His appointment had attracted criticism from human rights groups, which raised concerns over alleged brutality, extrajudicial killings, and election-related misconduct during his time with SARS. Civil society organisations warned that his record could undermine public confidence in the monitoring unit.

His tenure was also dogged by allegations of human rights violations, bias, and unprofessional conduct.
