Ondo Commissioner Shielded From Police Probe By Governor Aiyedatiwa, Splashes State Funds On Questionable Projects
The development comes on the heels of an earlier report detailing how Mrs Isaac became the subject of a high-level investigation by the Nigeria Police Force, over allegations bordering on criminal conspiracy, attempted murder, threat to life, assault, and causing grievous bodily harm.
The Ondo State Commissioner for Finance, Omowumi Isaac, who was recently under police investigation over grave criminal allegations, has sparked fresh controversy after being spotted in a video supervising what insiders described as “wasteful and questionable” projects funded with state resources.
In a footage obtained by SaharaReporters, the commissioner was seen receiving praises from a group of supporters during a visit to an ongoing Eid praying ground renovation project in the state.
The nature and relevance of the project, however, have drawn sharp criticism from observers who questioned its priority amid pressing economic challenges facing residents.
“This is the woman recently arrested by police but released by Governor Aiyedatiwa, using Ondo State funds for rubbish,” a source familiar with the situation told SaharaReporters.
The development comes on the heels of an earlier report detailing how Mrs Isaac became the subject of a high-level investigation by the Nigeria Police Force, over allegations bordering on criminal conspiracy, attempted murder, threat to life, assault, and causing grievous bodily harm.
According to documents exclusively obtained by SaharaReporters, the Inspector General of Police Monitoring Unit had, in a formal letter dated April 7, 2026, summoned the Commissioner to appear at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
The letter, signed by the Assistant Commissioner of Police, Mayamba Magomya Aliya, stated that her name “featured prominently” in a petition under active investigation.
“This office is investigating a case of criminal conspiracy, attempted murder, threat to life, assault and causing grievous bodily harm reported to the Inspector General of Police in which your name featured prominently,” the police wrote.
The invitation was issued pursuant to Section 53 (2)(a) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, 2015, compelling her to cooperate with investigators to “shed more light on the allegations.”
However, credible security sources had earlier revealed that Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa was allegedly mounting pressure on police authorities to halt the interrogation of the commissioner.
The governor was said to be opposed to the continued questioning, despite insistence that the police probe was unrelated to any financial dealings of the state government.
While it remains unclear whether Mrs. Isaac fully honoured the police invitation or the extent to which the investigation has progressed, her recent public appearance overseeing state-funded projects has intensified scrutiny over her conduct in office.
Critics argue that the commissioner’s actions reflect a pattern of impunity, particularly in light of the unresolved allegations hanging over her.
As of the time of filing this report, neither the Ondo State government nor the Ministry of Finance has issued any official statement addressing both the police investigation and the controversy surrounding the ongoing projects.
