Nigerian Farmer Shot On Farmland By Suspected Kidnappers, Brother Goes Missing | Sahara Reporters

A Nigerian farmer has recounted how he survived being shot while harvesting groundnuts on his farm, only for his brother to disappear weeks later while travelling to visit him in hospital.
The farmer, identified in a video posted bya source, Masara Kim, said he was working on his farm when he suddenly heard gunshots and was struck by a bullet.
He said the bullet entered through one part of his body and exited through another, causing him to fall to the ground.
According to him, he initially believed he would die after seeing armed men standing around him.
“I was in my farm, harvesting my groundnut. So, as I was working, I was removing groundnut from the ground,” he said.
He said he was unaware that armed men were watching him while he worked.
“As I was working, working, working, next thing I stood up, I heard gunshots,” he recounted.
The farmer said the first bullet hit him and passed through his body before exiting.
“When I heard gunshot, this is the entry, the first gunshot enters, the exit outside through. When I fell for ground, I opened my eyes and I saw people flying with the guns in their hand,” he said.
He said he was forced to crawl along the ground in an attempt to escape from the attackers.
According to the farmer, the attackers appeared to argue over whether he had been shot before one of them identified the person who fired at him.
“As the [gunman] lost me, the first person who shot me said, let them go. The other one said, no, he never shot. And the first person said, no, he shot me,” he recounted.
He pointed to the areas where he sustained the injuries, saying one bullet travelled through his body.
“He shot here, the one bullet enter here, reach here and pass through this place,” he said.
The farmer said he remained on the ground for some time before gathering enough strength to crawl towards an area where people could hear him.
“I now begin to think of how I will reach home. I now begin to scroll. I begin to scroll to reach where I can shout so that people may hear me,” he said.
He eventually raised an alarm, attracting the attention of people who rescued him and took him to security personnel.
He said he was subsequently taken to a cottage hospital in Kuala for treatment.
However, while he was recovering, his family suffered another tragedy.
The farmer said his brother had left home on August 31, 2026, to visit him at the hospital but never arrived.
“So, along in what happened to me and my brother is on the road to come here to see me. So, on the 31st of August, 2026, he left home,” he said.
“Unfortunately, he couldn’t reach here and he’s not home. We don’t know of his whereabouts.”
According to the farmer, villagers who witnessed the incident said suspected Fulani attackers opened fire along the road.
He said two people were travelling along the route when the attack occurred, with one eventually making it home while his brother failed to arrive.
“According to the witnesses in the village, they said Fulani attacked them. They hear gunshot along the roadside because they were two,” he said.
“The older person reached home, but him, no reach home. So, up to now, never know his whereabouts.”
The farmer said his brother had now been missing for about two weeks and that the family had received no ransom demand.
He also linked the latest incident to previous attacks on their community, alleging that the village had suffered repeated attacks by armed men.
“Last year, 2025, 18th June, Fulani bring attacks in our village. They kill our people. They burn our houses. They took our animals and go with his away,” he said.
He added that the attacks had also disrupted farming activities in the community, leaving residents unable to harvest crops they had planted.
“Lastly, we, the villagers, we didn’t finish the rain seeding over there. Our crops, we farm. We didn’t even harvest,” he said.

The farmer’s account highlights the continuing insecurity faced by rural communities where residents depend heavily on farming for their livelihoods.
For the family, however, the immediate concern remains the whereabouts of the missing brother, who disappeared while travelling to visit his injured sibling.
No ransom demand has reportedly been received by the family, leaving them uncertain about what happened to him after the alleged roadside attack.
