Nigerian Customs Officer Dies After Vehicle Crashed On Cross River Highway | Sahara Reporters

The Cross River State Police Command confirmed the crash in a statement issued on Tuesday through its spokesperson, ASP Sunday Eitokpah.

A 54-year-old Nigeria Customs Service officer, Prince Etteng Ise, died after his vehicle crashed along the Ikom-Calabar Highway in the Ikom Local Government Area of Cross River State on Monday, September 7.

Ise was serving at the Mfum Border in Etung Local Government Area when he lost control of his vehicle while attempting to avoid a pothole. The vehicle reportedly left the road, entered a bush and crashed into a tree near Alesi Village.

The Cross River State Police Command confirmed the crash in a statement issued on Tuesday through its spokesperson, ASP Sunday Eitokpah.

The command said the accident occurred at about 2:56 p.m. on September 7 along the Ikom-Calabar Highway.

According to the police, preliminary information showed that Ise was driving when he tried to avoid a pothole and lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle subsequently veered into the bush before colliding with a tree.

The injured Customs officer was taken to Holy Family Hospital in Ikom by residents who responded to the crash. Police said a medical doctor at the hospital later confirmed him dead, after which his remains were deposited at the hospital mortuary.

The police command expressed condolences to Ise’s family, colleagues and the Nigeria Customs Service over his death. It also urged motorists using the highway to drive cautiously, avoid excessive speed and remain alert to road conditions.

Ise was serving at the Mfum Border in Etung Local Government Area, an area close to Nigeria’s border with Cameroon. His death adds to concerns over road safety on the highway, where motorists are required to remain alert to road conditions and other hazards.

The deceased’s remains have been deposited at the mortuary while his family, colleagues and the Customs Service mourn his death.
