African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, and his lead counsel, Adeyinka Olumide-Fusika, SAN, will on Monday address journalists on the Department of State Services’ (DSS) decision to suspend the criminal case against the activist until after the 2027 general election
The media briefing is scheduled for 12 noon at CitiPoint Chambers, 11 C.I.P.M. Avenue, off Obafemi Awolowo Way, Ikeja Central Business District, Alausa-Ikeja.
According to the media invitation issued ahead of the briefing, Sowore and his lawyer will speak on the latest developments surrounding the case, which arose from his description of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as a “criminal.”
The briefing follows the reported decision by DSS Director-General, Tosin Ajayi, to suspend the prosecution until after the 2027 presidential election.
Sowore had on Sunday reacted to the development by describing it as a victory for resistance, accusing the DSS of being forced to back down after pursuing the case for nearly a year.
“The lawless @OfficialDSSNG has now been forced to eat humble pie. We told them from day one that this was an exercise in futility,” Sowore said.
He also demanded that the DSS withdraw the charge completely, apologise for what he described as an “abuse of power” and comply with court orders concerning the payment of ₦3 million in fines.
“The DSS must also immediately return the phones and drone unlawfully seized from my assistant, Zainab Sodiq,” he said.
The case followed social media posts made by Sowore in 2025 in which he referred to Tinubu as a criminal.
The reported suspension came after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) lifted the ban on presidential campaign activities on August 19, allowing candidates to commence campaigns ahead of the 2027 election.
Sowore and Olumide-Fusika are expected to provide further details and respond to the DSS decision during Monday’s briefing.
