Nigerian Police Arrest Two Suspected Drug Dealers In Anambra | Sahara Reporters

The operation followed credible intelligence on the activities of suspected drug dealers operating from a hideout in Obosi.

The Anambra State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of two suspected illicit drug dealers and recovered substances suspected to be Cannabis sativa, methamphetamine, and other hard drugs valued at ₦6.2 million in Obosi, Idemili North Local Government Area of the state.

The police also recovered ₦598,400 in cash during the operation, which was carried out in the early hours of Tuesday, August 11, 2026.

The operation followed credible intelligence on the activities of suspected drug dealers operating from a hideout in Obosi.

According to a statement issued by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Ikenga Tochukwu, the operatives of the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, stormed the suspected criminal hideout and arrested two male suspects identified as 47-year-old Nzube Onyedikachukwu, also known as “Onyeoma,” and 20-year-old Ugochukwu Azia.

Ikenga said the operation was part of intensified efforts by the Commissioner of Police of the state, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, to dismantle criminal hideouts in the state in line with the directive of Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu.

“A search conducted at the hideout led to the recovery of a large quantity of substances suspected to be Cannabis sativa, methamphetamine, and other illicit drugs valued at ₦6,200,000,” Ikenga stated.

Ikenga added that the police also recovered “the sum of ₦598,400 (Five Hundred and Ninety-Eight Thousand, Four Hundred Naira) in cash.”

“Preliminary investigation indicates that the suspects are allegedly involved in the distribution of illicit drugs, while the location is being used as a gathering point by suspected criminal elements after carrying out their operations,” Ikenga stated.

“Some of the suspected criminals reportedly fled the scene upon sighting the Police.
“The suspects are currently in Police custody, while investigation has commenced to establish the source and distribution network of the suspected illicit drugs, identify other persons connected to the operation and ascertain the circumstances surrounding the cash recovered.”
The Commissioner of Police, Ama, vowed to sustain intelligence-led raids and targeted operations across Anambra State.

The Command said the operations were aimed at dismantling criminal hideouts and preventing criminals from establishing safe havens within the state.
