Leaked Audio: Ex-FUOYE VC Fasina Vows To ‘Legally Tie Hands’ Of Successor Ogunwole For Allegedly Targeting His Allies | Sahara Reporters

A leaked audio recording purportedly featuring former Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), Prof. Abayomi Fasina, has captured him threatening to “legally tie the hands” of the institution’s current Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Joshua Ogunwole, while accusing the university management and governing council of failing to protect his interests.

Fasina, who is now a non-career ambassador, was heard making the remarks during a conversation with one Engr. Shobowale, another FUOYE figure described as his ally.

In the audio obtained by SaharaReporters, Fasina expressed anger over Ogunwole’s alleged failure to write him a congratulatory letter following his appointment, and accused the university’s governing council of failing to compel the incumbent Vice-Chancellor to do so.

He also discussed the suspension and disciplinary proceedings involving some university officials, alleging that Ogunwole had removed people considered loyal to him.

At one point, Fasina said: “So, the idea is that they are trying to make an issue out of me, and they want to prevent it from coming in so that we can have something to deal with. But I don’t know what… there is nothing they can say to Nike about it.

“So they expect that they would do such a thing to me and want me to keep watching.”

Shobowale responded, saying, “No. She is a woman. She must react the way she reacted.”

Fasina Accuses Council Of Failing To Act
Fasina subsequently criticised the governing council for failing to compel Ogunwole to congratulate him.

“Let me tell you, there are many of them there who cannot even tell Ogunwole to write a letter of congratulation to me at that council, that shows how they are stupid,” he said.

He said the council had become “very weak” and questioned whether the university management was undermining it.

“Does it mean management is trying to undermine the council? What kind of rubbish is that? What kind of rubbish is that?

“He just took the position. He took everything. The council should be able to recall him and refer the matter to management. What is all this nonsense?”

The former Vice-Chancellor also discussed the removal of some university officials, suggesting that their suspension or removal had created tension within the institution.

He specifically discussed the case of an official identified as Banji, whose suspension, according to Fasina, would reach three months on September 9.

“No, Banji has said he is just waiting for them. That the suspension on September 9 will be three months,” he said.

“It is either they renew the suspension… and he cannot renew the suspension by himself. He has to inform the council, or they have to take that decision.”

Fasina claimed that some people had already seen a decision directing that Banji be returned to his position and issued a letter of advice. Shobowale disputed this, saying the proposed warning letter concerned another official, Ogunjobi, and that “Banji did not commit any offence.”

Fasina then accused Ogunwole of damaging the careers of some university officials.

“Ogunwole has no mentor, and people are restless and looking at him.”

‘Legally, I Will Deal With It’ –Fasina
Fasina said he would not be intimidated by Ogunwole’s position and claimed he intended to challenge him through legal and media channels.

“That is why I cannot continue to be afraid of him just because he is in government. That is why I want to raise the alarm quickly,” he said.

He subsequently warned that Ogunwole could take further disciplinary action against university officials and said those opposed to him needed to strategise.

“So, Ogunwole will always fight back. I won’t be surprised if he fights back against you people,” he said.

“So, we also have to strategise. Legally, legally I will tie his hands. I will take it to the press. You are not thinking.”

Fasina further accused Ogunwole of behaving badly towards people within the university and said those involved should be prepared for further confrontation.

Shobowale, however, cautioned Fasina about the potential implications of his status as an ambassador.

“You see, you as an ambassador, there are certain things that should not come up with your own name,” he said.

FUOYE Memo Details Suspensions
The leaked conversation comes against the backdrop of an internal FUOYE memorandum concerning the suspension of two members of staff and the Students’ Union Government president.

The memo, issued by FUOYE Registrar Mufutau A. Ibrahim on June 16, 2026, followed a petition alleging that students were being subjected to an unauthorised collection of ₦1,000 each in connection with practical sessions under the Directorate of Educational Technology, Innovation and Entrepreneurship.

According to the memo, management constituted a Preliminary Fact-Finding Committee to investigate the allegations.

“All persons mentioned in the petition were invited to appear before the Committee. They were duly questioned and given the opportunity to respond to the allegations made against them,” the memo stated.

The committee reportedly found, on a prima facie basis, that certain officials had questions to answer over the alleged unauthorised collection of money from 100-level students during the 2025/2026 academic session.

The officials included Mr Olanrewaju Patrick Ogunjobi, Director of the Directorate of Educational Technology, Innovation and Entrepreneurship; Dr Banji Rildwan Olaleye, Deputy Dean, Student Affairs and Support Services; and Mr James Iyanuoluwa Adio, President of the Students’ Union Government.

According to the university, Ogunjobi was accused of authorising and collecting ₦1,000 from affected students without approval from the Senate or management and outside the university’s directive that payments be made through the Bursary.

The university also alleged that Olaleye assisted with the collection, while Adio was accused of participating in the distribution of ₦1 million received from the director and subsequently threatening to disrupt practical sessions.

The university said Ogunjobi was eventually compelled to transfer ₦700,000 into Adio’s personal bank account after the alleged confrontation.

Management said its Conditions of Service and Students’ Handbook provide for preliminary investigations and referral of disciplinary matters to the appropriate committees.

“On this basis,” the university said, it approved the suspension of Ogunjobi, Olaleye and Adio pending the conclusion of the disciplinary process.

The university also reaffirmed its position against alleged financial impropriety and abuse of office.

“The University will not tolerate the extortion of students, abuse of office, financial impropriety, or corruption in any form,” the memo stated.

“All staff and students are hereby enjoined to remain calm and allow the appropriate disciplinary processes to run their full course,” the Registrar added.

The leaked audio and the internal memo provide competing perspectives on an ongoing dispute within the university, with Fasina accusing the current administration of targeting officials and undermining the governing council, while management says the suspended officials were subjected to due process following allegations of unauthorised financial collections.

However, efforts by SaharaReporters to reach Fasina for a reaction were unsuccessful, as he neither answered calls to his mobile phone nor replied to a message sent to him.
