Johannesburg Electricity Problems Continue

Johannesburg continues to face electricity challenges, with some areas experiencing outages as City Power works to repair and strengthen the city’s electricity network.
A recent underground fire at the Fordsburg Substation caused widespread disruption across parts of Johannesburg. As of 26 August, City Power said some areas around the Johannesburg CBD, including Marshalltown and Bree Street, were still without electricity while technicians continued testing and repairing high-voltage cables.
The city is also carrying out planned maintenance, while ageing infrastructure, high demand and network faults continue to put pressure on electricity supply. City Power has urged residents to reduce consumption during peak periods to help ease pressure on the network.
The electricity problems are affecting more than households. Power interruptions can disrupt businesses, traffic lights, water-pumping systems and other essential services, making reliable electricity an important part of Johannesburg’s economic recovery and service delivery efforts.
5. Springboks Under Pressure Against New Zealand
South Africa’s Springboks are under pressure to respond after suffering a 33–16 defeat to New Zealand in the opening Test of their four-match series at Ellis Park in Johannesburg. The result ended South Africa’s 12-match winning streak and gave the All Blacks an early 1–0 lead.
The Springboks struggled to convert their scoring opportunities, while New Zealand produced five tries to South Africa’s one. South Africa also finished the match with 13 players after two late yellow cards.
Attention now turns to the second Test in Cape Town on 29 August, where South Africa must improve its execution and handle New Zealand’s pressure at the breakdown. A second defeat would put the Springboks in a difficult position in the series.
