Accord Party Candidate Olajengbesi Demands N10billion Damages From APC Senator Fadahunsi Over Alleged Defamation, Links To Cult | Sahara Reporters
Olajengbesi, through his lawyers at Law Corridor, also gave the senator 24 hours to retract the statements and issue an unreserved public apology or face legal action.
A lawyer and Accord Party candidate for the House of Representatives, Pelumi Olajengbesi, has demanded N10billion in damages from Senator Francis Fadahunsi over alleged defamatory statements linking him to cult groups and thugs.
Olajengbesi, through his lawyers at Law Corridor, also gave the senator 24 hours to retract the statements and issue an unreserved public apology or face legal action.
The demand was contained in a letter dated August 12, 2026, and addressed to Fadahunsi at the National Assembly in Abuja.
The lawyer alleged that Fadahunsi made the statements during a live interview on Viable TV on July 2 and subsequently on Channels Television’s Politics Today programme on August 11.
According to the letter, Fadahunsi had, during the July interview, said Olajengbesi was “not even from the same Ijebu-Jesha,” but was “from somewhere in Ogun State,” while also accusing him of “using thugs, Eiye and Aye.”
The letter was signed by Hammed Lasisi, Esq., Associate Partner at Law Corridor, on behalf of the firm.
Olajengbesi’s lawyers said the statements questioned their client’s identity and origin while also alleging that he sponsors, associates with or deploys members of the Eiye and Aye cult groups for political purposes.
The lawyers said the allegations were particularly damaging because Olajengbesi is a legal practitioner, political candidate and spokesperson for The Imole Campaign Council, the campaign organisation supporting the re-election of the incumbent Osun State governor.
They further stated that Olajengbesi is the Accord Party’s candidate for the House of Representatives election in the Obokun/Oriade Federal Constituency of Osun State.
The lawyers said the alleged defamatory statements were amplified after the television interviews were circulated across Facebook, TikTok, WhatsApp, X, Instagram and other social media platforms.
They added that Fadahunsi allegedly escalated the accusations during his appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today on August 11.
According to the letter, the senator said while discussing the late Ajayi Aderogba, popularly known as Rogba: “Rogba is an Eiye man sponsored by Barrister Olajengbesi terrorising the whole … my own territory up and down through all these Eiye and Aye.”
Olajengbesi’s lawyers argued that the statement conveyed the impression that their client sponsors, finances or supports cultists and deploys them to terrorise members of the public.
“Our Client emphatically denies these allegations. They are false, defamatory and gravely injurious to his personal, professional and political reputation,” the lawyers stated.
They said Olajengbesi had never sponsored, financed, supported or provided resources to any cult group or its members for criminal or political activities.
The lawyers also said he had never authorised anyone to terrorise, intimidate or attack members of the public on his behalf.
According to them, the allegations went beyond permissible political criticism because they directly imputed criminal conduct to their client and could expose him to “hatred, contempt, ridicule, professional embarrassment and even criminal suspicion.”
The lawyers said Olajengbesi had preserved recordings, publications and other materials relating to the statements and would rely on them if legal proceedings became necessary.
They demanded that Fadahunsi immediately cease making or circulating allegations linking Olajengbesi to the Eiye, Aye or any other cult group.
They also demanded a retraction of the statements made during the two television appearances, an unreserved public apology through the same media platforms and a written undertaking not to repeat the allegations.
The lawyers warned that failure to comply within 24 hours of receiving the letter would result in the commencement of legal proceedings without further notice.
Among the reliefs Olajengbesi intends to seek is an order declaring the statements false and defamatory, an injunction restraining Fadahunsi from repeating similar allegations and an order compelling him to publish a retraction and apology.
He is also demanding N10 billion as general and aggravated damages for alleged injury to his reputation, professional standing and political career, alongside legal costs and other reliefs the court may deem appropriate.
