No fewer than 12 shops were razed when a late-night fire gutted the Fallujah Shopping Mall in the Yola area of Adamawa State on Wednesday.

PUNCH Metro gathered in a statement by the National Emergency Management Agency on Thursday that goods whose worth had yet to be ascertained were also destroyed in the fire that started at about 8:30 pm.

The statement added that the intervention of emergency responders de-escalated the fire from causing severe damage.

It read, “A fire incident occurred at the Fallujah Shopping Mall in Yola at approximately 8:30 pm, yesterday (Wednesday) night, destroying property worth millions of naira.

“The incident sent flames and thick black smoke into the sky, causing panic among residents and business owners in the area.”

It added that there were no casualties recorded in the incident, but goods including mobile phones and accessories were destroyed.

“No casualties have been reported. However, 12 shops were completely consumed by the fire, leading to significant losses, including phones and accessories.

“Firefighting operations have been concluded, the affected area cordoned and authorities are currently investigating the cause of the incident,” the statement concluded.

PUNCH Metro had reported about a fire incident on February 4 which the Adamawa State Police Command confirmed that no life was lost at the MRS filling station located at the Batchure junction, along Numan Road.

According to a statement via the command’s X handle, the efforts of the men of the fire service and its operational unit put the fire under control.
