Nollywood actress, Yvonne Jegede, has stated that she is not actively seeking to remarry, describing marriage as “overrated” based on her personal experiences and observations.
The actress disclosed this during a recent interview on Naija FM, where she shared her views on relationships and the pressures often associated with marriage.
Yvonne spoke about those who date for a long time before getting married and still end up breaking up.
“I’ve seen so many people date for 15 years,17 years, and they marry for two years, three years, and then break up. Sometimes you go dey wonder say shebi they for just stay and no marry,” she said.
Jegede explained that while she is not shutting the door completely on marriage, she has learned not to force it or place it at the centre of her happiness.
“If it comes, but I’m not looking for it. I have learned not to say never,” she noted.
She also talked about the pressure and intolerance marriage has, saying, “A lot of intolerance dey. The wife will be claiming her rights, the husband will do the same”
Yvonne suggested everybody should do what makes them happy.
“Do what makes you happy and what works for you. And if you find the person you like, make una just dey,” she said.
The actress was previously married to actor and film producer Olakunle ‘Abounce’ Fawole, but the marriage ended in 2019, less than a year after it began. The union produced a son.
Her candid remarks have since sparked conversations online, with many Nigerians sharing differing opinions on marriage, relationships, and changing social values.
