Spanish La Liga side Valencia have completed the signing of Nigeria international Umar Sadiq on loan from Real Sociedad for the remainder of the season, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
The struggling Los Che, who have scored just 17 goals in 18 league games this season, will pay €1m loan fee for the striker with an option to make the deal permanent for less than €10m in the summer.
The 27-year-old becomes new manager Carlos Corberan’s first signing as Valencia look to steer clear of the relegation zone.
Sadiq’s move to the Mestalla follows a frustrating spell at Real Sociedad, where he made just six appearances this season, starting only two games and playing a total of 205 minutes from a possible 1,260.
The former Roma Academy graduate had earlier expressed his frustration at the lack of playing time at the Basque club.
“I just need continuity and that does not depend on me. I’m training well, I’m more than a professional now and that other part doesn’t depend on me,” Sadiq told Oluwashina Okeleji.
“The only thing I can do is keeSp pushing and keep training hard and, when I have continuity, it will be time to prove it.”
Sadiq started the 2022/23 season in fine form, scoring three goals in five matches, including his debut goal against Atletico Madrid, before suffering an anterior cruciate ligament injury that sidelined him for 11 months.
Since his return from injury, the Nigerian has struggled to replicate the form that made him Sociedad’s record signing, failing to score or provide an assist in the league this season.
The striker, who requested to leave Real Sociedad in August due to limited opportunities, is expected to join his new teammates next week.
