Gunmen on Sunday ambushed some residents in Dudun community, Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State, and killed three people.

The National Publicity Secretary of the Irigwe Youth Movement, Joseph Chudu Yonkpa, confirmed the killings to PUNCH Metro in Jos on Monday revealing that those killed were Mr. John Avia, 48; Sunday Vickson, 32; and Peter Vickson, 30.

He said the victims were killed while returning from an outing on Sunday evening.

According to Yonkpa, the attack was carried out by Fulani militias, who he noted had been wreaking havoc on the Irigwe community in recent times.

“The attack on our people at Dundu village yesterday, which resulted in the gruesome killing of three of our youths, is one too many.

“The victims of yesterday’s attack were identified as Mr John Avia, 48; Sunday Vickson, 32; and Peter Vickson, 30.

In the last fortnight, our people have been subjected to numerous ambushes, and our dry-season farm crops have been massively destroyed.”

The community leader condemned the continued attacks on the Irigwe community, saying, “In addition to the numerous ambushes of our people in the last fortnight and the massive destruction of dry-season farm crops, yesterday, Fulani militias ambushed our people at Dundu village, killing three. Those gruesomely killed are: Mr John Avia, 48 years old; Sunday Vickson, 32 years old and Peter Vickson, 30 years old.

“These incidents are one too many, and the numerous destructions Fulani militias continue to wage on the Irigwe community reaffirm their resolve against peaceful coexistence, peace, and tranquillity in Irigwe land.

“We encourage our people to increase vigilance, as our enemies are never asleep, seeking only to cause trouble and pain in our land.

“May God continue to rest the souls of our beloved ones, grant them eternal rest, and may our attackers never know peace”

When contacted, the spokesman for the Plateau State Police Command, Alabo Alfred, was not readily available as several calls put across to his mobile phone went unanswered.
