The seventh edition of the Lagos Kids Mini-Marathon has been scheduled to take place on Saturday, December 6, 2025, at Orange Island, Lekki, the organisers have announced.
This year’s marathon is themed “Active Kids Rock” with the sub-theme “Rock the Path, Your Way!”, spotlighting the unique abilities of all children, including those with special needs.
Organised by the St. Saviour’s School Ikoyi Endowment Fund, the event, which began in 2017, aims to promote active living, inclusivity, and community engagement among children across Lagos.
About 1,000 children from 150 schools are expected to participate in the 2025 edition, with expectations high for a bigger and more vibrant outing following the successes recorded in previous editions.
The 2025 Lagos Kids Mini-Marathon will feature multiple races and walks covering 1km, 1.5km, 3km and 5km, for age segments including 4–5 years, 6–8 years, 9–12 years, and 13–15 years, while also accommodating adults, parents and guardians.
Chairman of the 2025 Mini-Marathon Committee, Mrs Enitan Rewane, said this year’s edition will not only continue to promote fitness among children but will also contribute to social good.
“We also think it’s necessary that we support other organisations that are not as privileged as we are. So, a portion of whatever we raise goes to an identified charity. For us too, we have been very fortunate to have the support of different partners and sponsors, including the Lagos State Government,” Rewane said during a press conference on Thursday.
Team Lead of the 2025 Mini-Marathon Committee, Dr Yemi Osindero, emphasised the importance of instilling fitness habits in children from an early age, stressing that regular physical activity contributes significantly to overall well-being.
“We believe very strongly in this vision. Health is wealth, and being fit and active is an integral part of it. So, it’s something we want to make part of our children,” Osindero said.
Head teacher of St. Saviour’s School, Craig Heaton, added that beyond physical endurance, the marathon plays an important role in building character, resilience, discipline and teamwork among young participants — values the school intends to continue nurturing through the event.
“The chances of our kids’ success increase if we have a broader and balanced provision for them, which includes academics and sports. We at St. Saviour’s School believe in academic excellence, pastoral excellence, and we also want sports and creative arts excellence.”
House captains of the school also featured at the press conference, relishing their impactful experiences from previous editions.
Some partners of the event also described the mini-marathon as a platform that promotes active children, encourages resilience, builds confidence and teaches young people the importance of healthy living.
