Rainstorm destroys 70 houses in Plateau communities

At least, 70 houses and barns were, on Wednesday, destroyed by a windstorm which wreaked havoc in Mabudi and Sabon Gida villages as well as other communities in Langtang South Local Government Council of Plateau State.

Our correspondent gathered on Thursday that the devastating rainstorm that accompanied the rain left a trail of destruction in its wake.

Residents of the area told our correspondent that about 70 houses had their roofs blown off, while several buildings collapsed.

A resident of the affected community in Sabo Gida, Nanbol Nanzing, lamented the incident and called for intervention from the state government.

“Our people have been hit seriously by a rainstorm. It happened yesterday (Wednesday). From the level of damage, the people need urgent help,” he said.

The Chairman of Langtang South Local Government Area, Nanfa Nbin, also confirmed the incident in a statement signed by his media aide, Mr Iliya Bako.

The statement disclosed that the Local Emergency Management Committee in Langtang South Local Government Area constituted by the  council boss had visited the households affected by the rainstorm.

“The Local Government Council boss led by the Deputy Chairperson who is the Chairman of the committee, Julcit Musa, has visited the affected communities.

“The council boss sympathised with the victims and called on them to accept the disaster as God’s will,” the statement added.
