Oyo fire service rescues 12-year-old boy from drowning

Personnel of the Fire Service in Oyo State on Tuesday rescued a 12-year-old boy (name withheld) who fell into a river in Ibadan, the state capital.

Investigations by our correspondent revealed that the boy fell into the Renascent River at Adekanbi Street, Ajibola Area, Aremo, in the Ibadan North-East Local Government Area of the state at around 12:30 pm.

An eyewitness, who requested anonymity, told our correspondent, “The victim sank while trying to cross to the other side of the river.”

Another source, who preferred not to be named, added, “After the boy was rescued by fire service personnel, he was immediately handed over to his parents and taken to the nearest hospital for proper medical treatment.”

When contacted, the General Manager of Oyo State Fire Services, Akinyemi Akinyinka, confirmed the incident, saying it was reported to the agency’s Control Room Centre at exactly 12:39 pm.

He said, “The incident was reported to the agency’s CRC at exactly 12:39hrs on Tuesday, 17 December 2024, through GSM, that somebody had fallen into a river at Adekanbi Street, Ajibola Area, Aremo, Ibadan.

“The fire personnel were promptly deployed to the scene, and upon arrival, we carried out a rescue operation using search and rescue equipment, and we were able to save the 12-year-old boy from the deep river.”
