The Itesiwaju Omu Arogun Area Community Development Committee in Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State has called on the state government to fix the deteriorating infrastructure in Mowe, particularly the uncompleted Mowe–Ofada Road and persistent power failures in the area.

The group, according to a statement shared with Saturday PUNCH, made the appeal during the 3rd Annual General Meeting of the association held in Mowe last Sunday.

In attendance were residents, government representatives, and community stakeholders who gathered to review this year’s activities, unveil future plans, and honour outstanding contributors.

In his address, the Chairman of the committee, Pastor Yemi Adebisi, expressed concern over the state of the Mowe–Ofada Road, describing the long-abandoned project as a major hindrance to movement and economic activities.

He appealed to Governor Dapo Abiodun to fulfil his promise on the road, noting that the situation had worsened over time.

“The condition of the Mowe–Ofada Road has become a major concern for residents. We urge the state government to take urgent action to complete this critical infrastructure,” Adebisi said.

Adebisi also highlighted the absence of a motor garage, warning that commercial vehicles along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway posed risks to lives and property.

The community leader lamented what he described as the lack of a public incinerator, calling the state’s waste management arrangement ineffective. He also urged the local government to rehabilitate roads linking Mowe to the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway and end alleged multiple taxation by some officials.

Reviewing the association’s 2025 activities, Adebisi noted its achievements, including regular CDC meetings, participation in zonal CDC engagements and leadership trainings, and the benefit of state-organised Community and Leadership programmes for over 30 members.

Projects executed by the CDC included motorcycle purchases by Eagle CDA, construction of a community hall by Ifesowapo CDA Phase 1, CCTV installations, road grading, and the fixing of street lights.

Speaking on power challenges, IBEDC Distribution Technical Manager, Mowe Hub, Shobukola Babatunde, urged residents to remain patient.

“Visible improvements will soon be seen in electricity distribution,” she reportedly assured residents, who complained about paying higher tariffs but receiving less power supply.

On the need for urgent intervention, a resident, Oluyimika Ayoola, said: “The Mowe market road is in a terrible state. Immediate action is needed to prevent further hardship for residents and traders.”

Representing the Ogun State Government, Alhaja Taibat Abbas commended the association for its unity and commitment to community development, assuring that the state government had taken note of the residents’ concerns.

According to the statement, the AGM concluded with the presentation of awards to deserving individuals and groups, reinforcing the call for stronger collaboration between government and grassroots communities to tackle longstanding infrastructural and social challenges in Mowe.
