NovaChill in a new joint venture between Mystrose Agro Commodities Limited and the Ministry of Finance Incorporated, is rolling out a nationwide network of modern cold-chain warehouses.
According to a statement to The PUNCH, the initiative is aimed at reducing post-harvest losses, stabilising supply, and making food available year-round.
The statement read, “The rollout begins in the first week of December 2025 with the launch of Nigeria’s most advanced onion storage hub in Sokoto.
“This will be followed by another state-of-the-art warehouse in the South-South region in the first quarter of 2026. NovaChill has confirmed that these are just the initial phases, with more facilities planned across the country to create a seamless cold-chain infrastructure.
“The expected benefits are substantial: lower post-harvest losses, stabilised market prices, increased farmer incomes, higher export-ready surpluses, and greater foreign exchange earnings.”
NovaChill said the nationwide cold-chain network will transform Nigeria’s perishable food value chain and mark a major step forward in the fight against food waste.
“By providing farmers with modern storage solutions, the company aims to ensure that more produce reaches consumers while creating opportunities for export and economic growth.
“With the rollout of NovaChill’s cold storage facilities, Nigeria is taking a decisive step towards food security and a more resilient agricultural sector,” the statement added.
Nigeria’s persistent shortage of cold storage for perishable crops has long been a barrier to achieving food security.
Every year, massive post-harvest losses in vegetables, fruits, onions, and potatoes erase a significant portion of farmers’ output, push up prices, and leave millions of Nigerians vulnerable to food shortages.
