Nigerian football fans have expressed mixed reactions following the Super Eagles’ disappointing home draw in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State on Tuesday with many pointing out the team’s lack of coordination, poor finishing, and reliance on individual talent.

Nigeria’s World Cup qualification hopes suffered another setback on Tuesday as the Super Eagles were held to a 1-1 draw by Zimbabwe at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

Supporters took to social media to share their opinions, with several criticising the team’s performance while others highlighted the efforts of key players, particularly Victor Osimhen.

A user, Jekson (@certifiedmaga), called for a major overhaul of the squad, saying, “A lot of players should be cut from the team, Ekong should retire, give the coach free hand, bring in new players, focus on winning AFCON.”

Similarly, Tonye Barcanista (@TonyeBarcanista), described the match as “highly disappointing.”

Another fan, NanaEzze (@Nanaezze), lamented the poor support for Osimhen, stating, “Unfortunately, all the hard work this man (Osimhen) produced in the two games for Nigeria comes to nought!!! The lazy attitude of the midfielders and defense caused it.”

For Maxvayshia (@maxvayshia), the failure to secure a home win was a recurring problem, as he tweeted, “Home match. This is where dreams die.”

Criticism also came from Crusher Fire (@crusherLFC), who stressed the lack of teamwork in the squad. “Our player attitude needs to be worked on, we are the most stacked individual talents, but our team play is awful, a lot needs to improve,” they wrote.

Another fan, Blues4Life (@Blues4life___3), pointed out the lack of precision in front of goal, stating simply, “We are not clinical.”

The frustration was echoed by OUT OF CONTEXT ARSENAL (@MAQERI001), who tweeted, “We’re not good enough.”

Similarly, The Reflector’s Hub (@The_Reflector_H) noted, “Super Eagles have a lot to do.”

The performance of the team left some fans sympathising with Osimhen, with Edoja Efeturi (@Efe_2_Edoja) writing, “I just feel bad for Osimhen, bro worked very hard only to have his effort thwarted by some bunch of unserious players. I still don’t understand why Ndidi is getting picked ahead of Frank Onyeka, who is clearly a better player. Aina is our only reliable defender.”

The inconsistency of the Super Eagles was also a concern for Black Rexty (@rexty), who pointed out, “Inconsistent Eagles. Won away, drew at home. One win from six matches.”

Another fan, Olumoroti Ayokunle (@Olumorotiwears), called for changes in the squad, saying, “The likes of Moses, Samuel, Alex, and Ndidi are not supposed to be starters for Nigeria again, and we should play Bassey and Aina in left and right back. We need to be more clinical.”

Expressing his disappointment, EMMANUEL (@UniqueBeing234) said, “A lot of players don’t deserve to put on that shirt. Apart from Osimhen, most of them are lazy and should never be invited to the team again. We need players that understand what it means to play for Nigeria.”

Similarly, Adetoun Adejoke Adebisi (@debisiadejoke) criticised the players’ lack of commitment, stating, “The players, except Osimhen, didn’t bring the energy they use when playing for their various clubs to this game. They all had no hunger to win. Such an eyesore.”

Another fan, Naija Watch (@Don17488409), added, “I feel sorry for Osimhen. I wish we had two more players like him. Ekong is not a good defender, too many errors.”
