The 2005 alumni set of State Senior High School, Alimosho, Lagos State, has donated furniture and educational materials to current students of the school as part of activities marking its 20th anniversary reunion.
The two-day event, themed “Honouring Our Roots, Celebrating Our Journey,” was held on Friday and Saturday.
On Friday, the alumni, led by the chairperson, Bolanle Ladipo, and the vice chairperson, Taofiq Jinadu, visited the school and presented 13 units of furniture to support students’ learning. During the visit, members Grace Ebegbulem and Fatima Oyero also sensitised the students to morals, social etiquette, and practical tips on personal safety and security.
Speaking on the initiative, Ladipo said the gesture was driven by the set’s desire to give back to the school that shaped their early years.
She said, “As we mark our 20th anniversary, we felt it was important to appreciate the institution by supporting the students and contributing to the development of the school. It is simply our way of showing gratitude and making a positive impact.”
She added that the group had earlier donated two laptops and would provide additional books on Monday.
The school principal, Felix Kujore, lauded the initiative, saying it would help address the immediate needs of students.
He said, “It is something we have been looking forward to. We have actually written to the government for furniture for both staff members and students. It will come; the government of Babajide Sanwo-Olu is doing a lot because we have thousands of schools in Lagos State. So, it will take some time before it gets to us, but this donation will go a long way in addressing the immediate needs of the students.
“These are quality furniture that will outlive many sets of students to come. I appreciate it a lot, and on behalf of the entire staff and students, I want to thank you all for this wonderful gesture. Some people wait to have millions before giving, but when you have a little, you give, and the students will not forget. They will also emulate this when they grow up.”
The reunion ended on Saturday, with former classmates reconnecting and sharing memories of their school days. The alumni also presented gifts to both current and retired teachers who attended the event.
