FC Bayern Munich has confirmed that German international, Joshua Kimmich, has extended his contract with the club until June 30, 2029.

The announcement, made on Thursday via a club statement, marks nearly a decade since Kimmich joined the Bundesliga giants, during which he has won multiple domestic and international titles.

Kimmich, 30, has been a key figure for both Bayern Munich and the German national team, winning eight Bundesliga titles, the UEFA Champions League, and the FIFA Club World Cup, among other honours.

FC Bayern President Herbert Hainer praised the club’s management for securing Kimmich’s future, emphasising his leadership qualities.

“Compliments to our sporting management and our board. FC Bayern needs players who not only bear the shirt but also responsibility – on and off the pitch. And Joshua Kimmich is one of those players,” Hainer said.

Club CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen also highlighted Kimmich’s influence as a leader within the team and the national squad.

“We are delighted that Joshua Kimmich will continue his journey at FC Bayern. He is someone who always leads from the front, be it at the club or as Germany captain. His hunger is unbroken, as we saw again in the Champions League round of 16. His determination and his commitment embody what FC Bayern stand for. He should be the bridge between our current generation and a new era,” Dreesen stated.

Max Eberl, Bayern’s board member for sport, described Kimmich as the embodiment of the club’s identity and fighting spirit.

“Mentality and identity – that is what Joshua Kimmich represents. He has internalised the DNA of FC Bayern over the years and embodies it both on and off the field. Where others stop, he starts. We are very happy that he will continue to drive our team forward,” Eberl said.

Sporting Director Christoph Freund also commended Kimmich’s relentless dedication to the club.

“Everyone can see how passionate Joshua Kimmich is about the game and about his club, in every minute of the match. He is a leadership figure who drives forward and gives impetus; an engine who will continue to tirelessly push FC Bayern forward in the future,” Freund remarked.

Kimmich, who has played 429 competitive games for Bayern, scoring 43 goals and providing 115 assists, expressed his satisfaction with the club’s environment and his ambition to achieve further success.

“At FC Bayern I have the best environment to achieve my sporting goals. That is what my decision was based on. For me at the moment, there is no better package of team-mates, coaching staff and club environment in order to achieve maximum success. I feel at home here and I am not finished yet,” Kimmich stated.

Since joining Bayern from VfB Stuttgart via RB Leipzig in 2015, Kimmich has amassed an impressive trophy haul, including three DFB Cups, six DFL-Supercups, the UEFA Super Cup, and the FIFA Club World Cup. Internationally, he has earned 97 caps for Germany, scoring seven goals, and has captained the national team since last year.
