Nigeria striker Isaac Success has hit the ground running at his new UAE club, Al Wasl, opening his account on his debut, the winner in their AFC Champions League 2-1 win at Al Gharafa on Tuesday night.
The 28-year-old, who endured a torrid spell at Udinese before mutually parting ways with the Serie A side early this month, took to his Instagram page to share his excitement with a portion of the Bible, which read, “Isaiah 40:31. (But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.”
The former Watford striker, who came in as a 78th minute replacement for Siaka Sidibe, scored the winning goal two minutes into added time after Fábio Lima drew them level on 84 minutes, with the home having been put in front by Sassi on 44 minutes at Al Bayt Stadium, Al Khor.
Success, who won the FIFA U-17 World Cup with Nigeria in 2013, spent two months in the labour market from August 27 when his contract was terminated by Udinese to October 20 when he joined his current club on a free transfer.
He last scored a goal in May 2023, one of his four efforts in 79 appearances for Udinese.
He has not played for Nigeria in many years, but that can happen shortly if he builds on his solid start to his UAE career.
