Intellectual theft: Why I refused to sue Burna Boy, says Konga

3 days ago 29

Recently, singer and rapper, Lawal Olumo, popularly known as Konga, publicly called out Burna Boy for intellectual theft. Despite peacefully expressing his grievances, Konga revealed in an interview with Saturday Beats that his lawyer was eager to pursue legal action, but he (Konga) discouraged him.

“My management and lawyer were angry and wanted to take up the case because he (Burna Boy) contacted foreign artists whose intellectual work he featured but didn’t contact me. However, I told them not to. I appreciated it because I’m the kind of artist that always looks forward to the best way we can support each other and be productive,” he explained.

He added, “He used some of my lines and melody in ‘Kabakaba.’ We had not had a conversation about the feature before the time I made the video request online, and he has not responded yet. I pray and I hope Burna Boy responds to my requests. I also hope Tiwa Savage turns up because I am doing remixes for some of my other classic songs.”

Although they are not particularly close, he recalled a memorable moment they shared. “I recall one time when I and Burna Boy were in a blue room in Eko Hotel with Wizkid, and I said to him, ‘You’re going to be the next big thing in Nigeria.’ After some time, it came to pass. Well, we are not that close; we just greet each other. I also heard him call my name in his songs”, he stated.
