
Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo
Edo State Commissioner for Education, Dr Paddy Iyamu, has said that students from various secondary schools in the state are eager to participate in the 2025 Governor’s Cup.
Iyamu made the disclosure when he met with the state Sports Commission chairman, Hon. Amadin Desmond Enabulele and the sponsor of the event, Peculiar Ultimate Concerns Limited.
The tourney tagged ‘Catch Them Young’, and initiated by Governor Okpebholo, is aimed at providing a platform for young athletes in the state and enhancing young talents.
Iyamu noted, “We appreciate Peculiar Ultimate Concerns Limited for their interest in sponsoring this competition as part of their community social responsibility. We are grateful for your commitment to sports development.
“I can assure the sponsor and the sports council that the students are ready to participate in the event and showcase their talents,” he added.
On his part, Enabulele highlighted the significance of organising a memorable competition, adding, “It is essential to ensure that this event helps maintain our position as a sports powerhouse in the country.
“With the 2025 Governor’s Cup, we are confident that many promising talents will be identified and nurtured to elevate sports in Edo.
“Senator Monday Okpebholo is deeply committed to sports development, and these untapped talents will play a significant role in our state’s future success. Our goal is to ensure that the Governor’s Cup proceeds smoothly without disrupting academic activities.”
Participation in the 2025 Governor’s Cup is open to public and selected private schools, featuring Under-16 students from JSS 1, JSS 2, SS1, and SS2. Schools’ game masters will oversee the initial rounds at the school level.
