Flickfunds Africa has appointed veteran actor, Norbert Young, as its new brand ambassador, marking a strategic move aimed at strengthening structure, funding, and ownership within Africa’s creative economy.
With a career spanning more than four decades, Young is widely regarded for his discipline, consistency, and enduring influence in African film.
In his new role, Young will serve as the public face of the brand’s expanding initiatives across the continent. He is expected to lead creative engagements, mentorship programmes, and participate in both physical and virtual activities of the Flickfunds Africa Academy, an initiative focused on equipping filmmakers with business, legal, and investment knowledge alongside creative training.
According to a statement shared with Saturday Beats, the academy aims to reposition filmmaking as a sustainable enterprise, teaching participants to recognise films as intellectual property and long-term assets.
The Academy’s first physical programme, The Fundable Filmmaker Experience, is scheduled to hold in Benin City from March 11 to 13, 2026, at the Edo Innovation Hub.
As part of its long-term empowerment strategy, Flickfunds Africa also announced an investment initiative that will see 10 African filmmakers receive $100,000 each in production funding by 2027.
Speaking on Young’s appointment, Flickfunds Africa Chairman, Wilson Chibututu, said the actor embodies the values the organisation seeks to promote.
“He represents the discipline, excellence, and credibility that this generation of African creatives needs. We are building more than a company we are building a system that funds the future of African storytelling. With Norbert as our ambassador, we are showing the world that Africa’s film industry is ready not only to inspire but to lead,” Chibututu said.
