Chukwueze out for one month

AC Milan winger Samuel Chukwueze will spend about a month on the sidelines after sustaining an injury last weekend, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

The Nigerian had a worrying moment in the first half of their 1-1 draw against Roma and it came not long after an attempt on goal as he fell to the floor clutching his hamstring.

Despite showing flashes of creativity in his 62 minutes on the pitch, Chukwueze’s night ended in frustration as he limped off the field. He immediately requested a change, with Tammy Abraham taking his place.

He looked in real pain when he went down which immediately led to fears of a muscle tear rather than just a tweak, and a further update has come on Wednesday following the news that he has not travelled for the Supercoppa Italiana in Saudi Arabia.

According to MilanNews, the MRI scan carried out has revealed a lesion of the left femoral biceps. The Nigerian will be re-examined in ten days and he is expected to be out for at least one month, meaning he would miss the whole of January.

That means the winger will be out of their clash against Juventus in the Supercoppa semi-final, the final (if Milan qualify), Cagliari at home, Como away, Juventus away, Girona at home, Parma at home and Dinamo Zagreb away.

The Milan derby on February 2 may well be the target for him to return but it remains unclear.

The 25-year-old’s injury will likely put an end to links between him and Arsenal as the Gunners are also in search of a makeshift right winger following an injury to Saka.

A UK publication, sportwitness, reported that the EPL giants had identified the Nigeria international as a potential replacement for the injured England international, Saka,

The injury is also a setback for Chukwueze’s career in Milan. In 21 appearances across all competitions this season, he has managed just three goals and one assist, largely as a substitute.
