Chelsea Women goalkeeper Hannah Hampton has beaten Chiamaka Nnadozie to the Best FIFA Women’s Goalkeeper award, marking the second time the England keeper has claimed an honour ahead of the Nigerian goalkeeper this year, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
Hampton was announced as the winner during a ceremony held at the Fairmont Katara Hall in Doha, Qatar, on Tuesday. Paris Saint-Germain’s Gianluigi Donnarumma also won the men’s award.
Nnadozie was shortlisted for the 2025 FIFA Best Women’s Goalkeeper Award alongside Hampton, Ann-Katrin Berger (Germany), Cata Coll (Spain), Christiane Endler (Chile), Anna Moorhouse (England) and Phallon Tullis-Joyce (USA).
She had earlier been beaten to the Ballon d’Or Women’s Yashin Trophy by Hampton this year, with Nnadozie finishing fourth in the rankings.
The 25-year-old Nigerian goalkeeper also won the CAF Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year Award for the third consecutive year in November. However, her credentials have not been enough to earn her a podium finish at the global level.
She made the FIFA shortlist following a remarkable 2024/25 season, during which she inspired her former club, Paris FC, to the Coupe de France Féminine title, their first major trophy in about 20 years.
The former Paris FC keeper was also instrumental in Nigeria’s 10th WAFCON triumph in Morocco earlier this year, where she was named Goalkeeper of the Tournament. She kept four clean sheets in six matches and conceded only twice from open play, both in the final against Morocco, as the Super Falcons came from two goals down to win 3–2.
Nnadozie also helped Paris FC reach the French league playoffs before completing a move to Brighton Women in England.
In England, she has maintained her consistency at club level, keeping three clean sheets in 10 league games this season and winning the Women’s Super League Save of the Month award for November.
On the other hand, Hampton, also 25, helped Chelsea win the domestic treble last season and played a key role as England defended their Euro 2025 title this summer.
Hampton thanked England manager Sarina Wiegman and Chelsea head coach Sonia Bompastor “for the belief in me this year.”
“With club and country, we have achieved so much, and there is still much more for us to go and get,” she said.
“To the fans, both club and country, your support doesn’t go unnoticed.
“We hear you cheering every single game, loud and proud, and it helps push us on to go and get the win for you all. So, thank you very much.”
