Police say the case is currently under active investigation and urged the public, especially media professionals and social media users, to be cautious in spreading unverified information.
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has confirmed that it is investigating a sexual assault complaint filed by Miss Ebunoluwa Mitchell Fatoyinbo against one Oscar Ilochi, a resident of the Apo Legislative Quarters in Abuja.
In a statement signed by SP Josephine Adeh, FCT Command Police Public Relations Officer, police clarified that although reports circulating on social media claim that the investigation involves a sister of Mr. Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, this is not true.
"The Federal Capital Territory Police Command is aware of a circulating publication on social media alleging that the Command has commenced an investigation into a case of sexual assault involving Miss Ebunoluwa, purportedly referred to as the sister of Mr. Seyi Tinubu, son of His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR,” the statement said.
“The Command wishes to clarify that a formal complaint of sexual assault was indeed lodged by Miss Ebunoluwa Mitchell Fatoyinbo against one Oscar Ilochi, a resident of the Apo Legislative Quarters, Abuja.”
Police say the case is currently under active investigation and urged the public, especially media professionals and social media users, to be cautious in spreading unverified information.
"For accurate and official updates, members of the public are advised to contact the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, on 07038979348," the statement added.
Earlier, SaharaReporters reported that the FCT Police Command had launched an investigation into an alleged sexual assault involving a young woman named Ebunoluwa, whom Seyi Tinubu reportedly identified to the police as his “younger sister.”
The incident is said to have occurred at the Evolve 360 Gym Complex in Apo, Abuja.
According to police sources who spoke with security analyst Zagazola Makama, the suspect, identified as Oscar Ilochi, allegedly assaulted the victim while she was working out alone in the basement area of the gym.
A police source confirmed to SaharaReporters on Wednesday that Seyi Tinubu brought the alleged victim to the station on Tuesday night.
"Yes, Seyi brought her last night and he claimed she is his younger sister by name Ebunoluwa—no surname was given—and that she is traumatised now, so the Divisional Police Officer can’t get more information for now until she’s stable,” the source said.
While Seyi Tinubu referred to the woman as his sister, official records confirm that First Lady Remi Tinubu has three biological children with President Tinubu: Zainab Abisola Tinubu, Habibat Tinubu, and Olayinka Tinubu. She is also stepmother to the President’s three other children from previous relationships: the late Olajide Tinubu, Folashade Tinubu, and Oluwaseyi (Seyi) Tinubu.
The suspect, Ilochi, allegedly approached the victim, touched her inappropriately, and attempted to force himself on her.
The incident has reportedly caused the victim significant emotional distress.
According to Zagazola, Ilochi had previously been banned from the same gym over similar allegations, sparking concerns over enforcement failures by the facility’s management.
As part of the investigation, authorities have requested CCTV footage from the gym to support their inquiries. Meanwhile, sources said the victim has received medical treatment and is currently recovering.
