According to a message received from his brother, Sunkanmi Afolabi, who is currently in the United States, Sunday Afolabi was arrested on Monday, October 20, 2025, at around 2 p.m. along NTA Road in Ado-Ekiti by a military officer.

A Nigerian man, Sunday Afolabi, has been reportedly detained by the Nigerian Army under circumstances that have raised serious concerns for his health and safety.

According to a message received from his brother, Sunkanmi Afolabi, who is currently in the United States, Sunday Afolabi was arrested on Monday, October 20, 2025, at around 2 p.m. along NTA Road in Ado-Ekiti by a military officer.

He was initially taken to Akure before being transferred to Abuja.

The family stated that Sunday’s only alleged offence was speaking out about the welfare of regular soldiers deployed in Sambisa Forest, highlighting the lack of proper equipment and support.

During his last video call with his wife on Wednesday, October 22, he reportedly appeared handcuffed, bleeding, and extremely weak, reportedly from torture.

“Since then, we have had no contact, and we are deeply worried about his life and health, especially because he is asthmatic and urgently needs medical care.”

Sunkanmi appealed for any form of assistance that could help ensure his brother’s safety and access to medical care.
