Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
SaharaReporters reliably gathered that the governor held a closed-door meeting on Wednesday with the 25 local government council chairmen, members of the State House of Assembly, and other key PDP stakeholders at the Government House, where he informed them of his finalized decision to leave the PDP for the ruling APC.
A principal officer of the State House of Assembly who attended the meeting and spoke to SaharaReporters on condition of anonymity revealed that the governor is also preparing to dissolve his cabinet soon to make room for new appointments, including individuals from the APC.
“In a few days’ time, the governor will also be dissolving his cabinet to accommodate other APC members,” the source said.
“The arrangement will be a 60/40 thing. The APC will take 40 while the PDP will take 60 in the new cabinet to be formed in the shortest possible time. As we move on, other things and plans will be unveiled. The 60/40 will also be applied in the structure of the state party."
Former Senator James Manager, who represented Delta South Senatorial District in the National Assembly, also confirmed Governor Oborevwori’s defection to the APC during the meeting.
The governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Festus Ahon, further affirmed the development, stating that Oborevwori would be officially received into the APC next Monday.
