Bayern Munich’s Muller rues missed chances in Barcelona thump

Bayern Munich legend Thomas Müller has blamed missed chances for his side’s 4-1 defeat to Barcelona on Wednesday night.

According to UEFA.com, the former Germany international shared his thoughts after the loss, stating that Bayern Munich lacked confidence towards the end of the game due to the scoreline.

“We had good possession of the ball, so maybe the scoreline was a little bit of a strange result.

“We have to respect that they are a good team, that Raphinha had an almost perfect night, while we missed good chances.”

Wednesday’s defeat left the German giants with three points out of a possible nine after three games in the current Champions League season.

“This obviously isn’t a good feeling. We came here to win, but we lost 4-1, so there’s a lot of work to do for us,” he told the media.

“We perhaps lacked confidence in the end because of the scoreline and how it seemed we played.

“When we look back and analyse it, we’ll see that Barcelona had more good moments than us. I say it seemed like we lacked confidence, only because we didn’t press like we wanted to.

“We didn’t have the possession and control that we aimed for. We didn’t play like we were capable of playing; that’s what I meant. Maybe it’s only human, when losing 4-1, to step up again and try again, but it’s not that easy,” Müller asserted.

Barcelona’s victory reflects the good form the Blaugrana have been in under their new coach, Hansi Flick, as they turn their attention to El Clásico this weekend in their quest to wrest the La Liga title from Real Madrid.

Before Wednesday’s game, Barca had yet to score a goal against Bayern Munich in their last five meetings and had fallen six times at the hands of Bayern Munich in the Champions League.

However, they were excellent on Wednesday and secured a significant victory.
