2,056 athletes to participate in MTN Champs season 3

The founder and Chief Executive Officer, Making of Champions, Bambo Akani, on Wednesday, said that 2,056 athletes have registered to participate in the MTN Champs Season 3 in Benin.

Akani, who disclosed this during a media briefing to herald the three-day track championship in Benin, said that Season 1 of the competition also took place in Benin and talents were discovered.

He added that some of the talented athletes discovered from the competitions are currently enjoying full scholarships in different schools in the United States.

He said that he had the confidence that those talented athletes that have been discovered would do the country proud at international competitions.

Speaking also, the Senior Manager Sponsorship and Go To Market (GTM), Osaze Ebueku, said MTN could spot rough diamonds and refine them to become world champions. He said that they were on the journey for a long haul with the view of working with their partners to elevate the standard of athletics in the country.

“You go stronger together on a long journey and the fact that we have partners like Edo State joining the programme shows how important it is. We are in Edo to continue the journey of discovering and nurturing talents,” he said.

On his part, the Edo State governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, represented by the Chairman, Edo State Sports Commission, Amadin Enabulele, said that his administration believes in the development of sports from the grassroots.

He said that in demonstration of his love for grassroots sports, catching the children young and supporting the MTN’s project, he has graciously approved the usage of the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium and other logistics to engender a successful event in the state.

He added, “The Governor has given us the mandate to go to the nooks and crannies of the state to discover talents and that is what we are doing with competitions like this.
