11 Residents Killed As Lakurawa Terrorists Sack Kebbi State Communities

It was gathered that the attackers stormed Birnin Dede and nearby communities, setting homes ablaze and forcing residents to flee.

No fewer than 11 people have been killed, and six villages destroyed in a violent attack by Lakurawa militants in the Arewa Local Government Area of Kebbi State. 

The assault, which occurred on Sunday, was reportedly carried out in retaliation for the killing of a militant leader, Maigemu, by security forces. 

It was gathered that the attackers stormed Birnin Dede and nearby communities, setting homes ablaze and forcing residents to flee. 

Only one village was spared, as military personnel were stationed there. 

Confirming the killing,  the Kebbi State police spokesperson Nafiu Abubakar, on Monday, disclosed that 11 fatalities and two critically injured victims.

Abubakar noted that the attack happened on Sunday. 

"They targeted six villages, killing 11 people and leaving two others in critical condition. We are on their trail, and God willing, we will apprehend them soon,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of Arewa Local Government Council, Alhaji Sani Aliyu, stated that the victims had been laid to rest according to Islamic rites. 

He further confirmed that the attack was a reprisal for the recent security operation that resulted in the killing of Maigemu, a notorious bandit leader, as part of ongoing efforts to combat terrorism in the region.

In response, security forces have intensified operations to apprehend the perpetrators and restore stability in the affected communities.
